"Wrack" Opening night with music and projection and artist talk
Premiere of a new body of porcelain and drawings in Maleny.
In March I traveled to Tasmania (Lutrwita) to the Tessellated Pavement an ancient rock shelf, jutting out to sea, criss-crossed with crevasses and geological scars, colonised by crabs, sea anemones. The pans and loaves rock formations create a "wrack-zone" where treasures rich and strange accumulate deposited and taken by the waves.
Come and see this new porcelain and drawing inspired by the wrack-zone in an immersive experience with improvised music by Louise King and projection by Daphne Hart. Dr Alexandra Lawson from USQ will complete the evening with an artist’s interview.
Event includes light supper.
"Wrack" premiere of a new body of work in Maleny
Celebrate the launch of of my new body of work-”Wrack”
I have never had the opportunity to show a major body of exhibition work in Maleny, this project enables local audiences to see this work first. The work will go on to be exhibited in other galleries around Australia. Some of this work will go to Beaver Galleries in Canberra in February 2024.
“Wrack” is inspitered by a trip I took in March to Tasmania (Lutruwita) to the Tessellated Pavement an ancient rock shelf, jutting out to sea criss-crossed with crevasses and geological scars, colonised by crabs, sea anemones. Vessels and Bird Stories is an exhibition about making something from nothing, the process of creating in the studio from a lump of clay to a fine porcelain vessel covered in drawings.
Shannon Garson- Mas & Mieke Ceramic House
Join me for my first solo exhibition in Brisbane for over a decade.
Over the past twenty years I have been exploring thrown, porcelain vessels decorated with intricate drawings. I juxtapose classic, clean porcelain vessels with the infinite variety of striations, spots, and marks found in nature. Marginal eco-systems have led me through wallum swampland, over sea cliffs and underwater to make work about the tidal zone, endangered paperbark habitat and rare native flora and fauna. The bowls, jugs, teapots and cups, shapes that we are all so familiar with, provide a window that leads the viewer into the drawing and over and under all the surfaces of the form. I think these shapes encourage the idea of touching the artwork, getting closer, examining the tiny, hidden details, this is a metaphor for what happens when you are bush walking, or beachcombing.
Opens Saturday July 16- 4.30pm- 6.30 pm
Ends July 31

We Are Stardust
From the first moments of the universe forming from protons and electrons, helium and hydrogen and collapsing, and colliding and forming new elements we have been connected to the stars. The material that I make vessels from came from the same ineffable explosion as the material we are made of. The clay vessels we are so familiar with are ritual objects that connect us to the universe.
The forms are simple, pared back teacups, teapots, and moon vases that refer to Japanese and Scandinavian design. Drawings move across the pots, containing mythological animals, astrophysical equations and chemical symbols, leaves, flowers and abstract marks. They explore the way we are all linked, animate and inanimate, human to ancient elements. The beginning of the universe in a teacup.
